Did you know that 1 in 200 women and girls suffer from anorexia? Somehow, this is not surprising. When you scroll through your Instagram feed, you see hundreds of pictures of stunning models who are stick thin. Sure, having a great picture of you, looking like a celebrity and getting hundreds of likes is great, but what does modeling yourself after these people really cost you?

Many of the women who promote this unhealthy lifestyle are not just celebrities, but some of fashion’s top models. Fashion is just as much an art form as painting or music, and the people who represent fashion should make your confidence skyrocket, not diminish it. What would happen if the fashion industry employed models who look like normal people? Then fashion could really connect with everyone. But the fashion industry isn’t completely helpless. Jonathan Newhouse, from Vogue, said in 2013, “Vogue believes that good health is beautiful. Vogue editors around the world want the magazines to reflect their commitment to the health of the models who appear on the pages and the well-being of their readers.” Did they do this? Vogue and other magazines and fashion websites are getting there, however slowly. If the fashion industry follows this track, we will begin to see a huge impact on not only the fashion world, but all of the girls who it inspires. I have always been comfortable in my body (thanks family) and I believe that every girl can be comfortable in her own skin. No matter if you’re super pale, or you’re more of a tan goddess. Maybe you’re really tall, or super short. You can be able to know how beautiful you are in every sense. So next time you don’t feel beautiful, just think of the people who do. They are the ones that matter. And just remember, you look twice as fabulous as the models in that new high fashion ad in the newest teen Vogue. You know the one. XO, Bella Image: MeghanTrainor.com
