Music and fashion

If fashion and music were people, they would be best friends. From music on the runway to singers and musicians sporting amazing ensembles, they go everywhere together. Artists in fashion and music both have to create their own personal style, and pay close attention to those special details that make or break your work. They have a mutually beneficial relationship. Imagine if Rihanna started wearing your designs. You made Rihanna look fabulous and you have something up your sleeve that can impress anyone.

Chinese couture and fashion designer Gou Pei is a perfect example. She really did make Rihanna look fabulous when Rihanna sported a canary yellow dress fit for a queen . It was designed by Pei for last year's Met gala. Pei's fashion career and popularity skyrocketed literally overnight. She has now been compared to some of fashions greats, such as Alexander McQueen and Coco Chanel. Talk about BFF status, am I right?

Just in the way that musicians and pop stars can make a designer more popular, they are also style icons and can make an entire look popular. Some of the most iconic and memorable looks come from great music stars. Just think of Taylor Swift and Arianna Grande who brought back that classy and vintage look or Lady Gaga's infamous meat dress. We all look up to our favorite musicians, and are inspired (and sometimes a little shocked) by their wardrobes. We all associate an artist (or even a genre of music) with a specific style. Pop stars are bound to wear something unique and edgy, country stars go more for that rugged look, and rap legends go more toward cool sweatpants and million dollar sneakers. Sometimes their most recognizable trait is their signature style or accessory (think Ariana's cat ears or Taylors red lips).

I just can't imagine fashion and music not attached at the hip. They compliment each other so well. It is one thing to listen to amazing music, but when you watch an artist perform you don't just want to hear their unique style, you want to see it too. If there is anything that can take music and transform it into something that can be seen, fashion is the one for the job.

XO, Bella
